Employability! The biggest challenge of the contemporary engineering graduates in India. India is highly successful in creating a large talent pool of engineering graduates. The booming economy and rising industrialization has created a large number of employment opportunities in India. India, as the favorite software outsourcing destination of the world, has brought a sizable amount of new job opportunities here.

Does this really meet the expectations? Unfortunately not! There is a big gap between the academia and industry expectations. The recent survey from NASSCOM shows that only 25% of engineering students passing out from the colleges are employable. This is alarmingly low. One side a bright career opportunity is waiting, other side, candidates are far from the industry expectation level.

How to bridge the gap? We, Astra Infotech, strongly feel that, software engineering and automation knowledge is one of the ways to enhance the employability. Even today, the IT industry is far away from effective automation. This is very clear if you look at any industry like manufacturing, construction etc. The need of the hour is to have a software engineering foundation, apart from the conventional programming language knowledge. Once the student is exposed to software engineering areas like Requirement engineering, Business Analysis, Software Architecture & Design, Configuration Management and Software Quality, then the opportunities are much more. Along with the software engineering know how, once somebody acquires the skills on various automation tools for this, the career prospects and employability is ensured.

We, Astra Infotech, have launched a program called “ Software Engineering for Employment SEEKers”. Astra Infotech, as a partner with IBM Rational, the pioneer in software engineering automation, would like to create a software engineering automation talent pool. A right answer to the employability challenge of the current times.

ASSIST Academy, the training division of Astra Infotech, a partner with IBM Career Education for IBM Software, will enable the engineering college students on software engineering and automation tools during their curriculum. ASSIST Academy will provide trainings at the colleges to the final year students to enable them to their final year projects using the IBM ‘Jazz’ platform along with various software engineering tools from IBM Raitonal.

As a value add to the students, ASSIST Academy, will provide a live project experience both on collaborative development and software quality and testing. In this regard, Astra Infotech has signed up partnerships (MoU) with international organizations and associations. Hannover IT, an IT association from Hannover, Germany, German Indian Business Center, Hannover are few among them.

Enabling the students to do their final semester live projects with proper software engineering approach as well as automation from IBM Rational, will for sure, increase the potential of the student in the job market. A Career Education course completion certificate from IBM will enhance their resume value. On successful completion of the four-month project, the student will also receive a project participation certificate from our international partner.
